I wonder, have you heard about the Parade of Quilt's yet? If you haven't keep reading, it's time to share a bit of past quilting (yes, even if it is ugly and hids in the back of the cupboard year round). Quite clearly, this is where my first quilt lives.
If you have not yet visited Camille of Simplify and Carrie of Miss Rosie's please pop over and check out the plan, it's going to be interesting....possibly ugly, but definately fun.
You have to start somewhere and here it is - My First Quilt, believe me it looks better slightly out of focus. It was hand pieced and hand quilted and it appears the quilting stitch looks more like basting. Now at the time (back in the early 90's) I thought it was a great choice of color, looking back now I don't know why I chose that sashing fabric....but it also appears on the quilt back - must of liked it back then.
That is possibly why it has not seen light of day.
There must be a reason why I have never parted with my first quilt, maybe it holds the memory of how proud I was to finish my first sampler and possibly because without the first chapter (quilt) the journey would somehow be incomplete.
Either way, after this post I will fold it up and shove it in the back of the cupboard.
So there, you will never see my first quilt again.
The next part of the story is about the last project I have completed. Somewhere between the first quilt and the last quilt I found stitchery and the combination of designing, drawing, stitching and patchwork.
My last completed project is Tail Feathers
So there you have it, interesting, ugly but fun - and anyway you have to start somewhere, right?
Til then,
Natalie x

WOW! This block is beautiful! You do amazing work!
thanks for sharing....

I think you are too hard on yourself. I have seen many patchwork quilts, and believe me, some of them look much worse then your first tries, and they come from people who work on them in years. Keep up the good work! ==b

I usually keep my "first attempts" for different projects, even though some of them make me cringe they also remind me how much you can improve with time and practice.
Thanks for sharing!

You should be so proud of yourself!
Grandchildren will love curling up with your first quilt, no matter if it's large or small. See, it's from the past, but meant for the future.

Wow! I remember the day we decided to do our first sampler class ~it took us ages to decide the colours to use, we were very proud of the finished quilt at the time.

That latest quilt of your is spectacular! I can't believe how much work that must have been. Totally worth it, though, I'm sure. Thanks for sharing it with us!

You first quilt is very much in the style of quilts of the early 90's. Everything was so matchy matchy :o)

When it comes to our first quilts, it wasn't us! It was the fabric! We were blameless, we didn't have any other choice. Okay, that isn't entirely true but it still makes me feel better. :)
While I really like your first one, I really love your latest quilt. But then I love all your work so that really isn't a surprise. :)
Thank you for sharing your quilts, and it wasn't anywhere near an ugly at all!
