It's time for me to tell you what has been happening in our world these last few months, there is so much to share with you. There has been designing and creating in the studio, new fabrics and family moments we will cherish forever.....I wonder if you can guess the direction of my note to you today?
I have no idea if I should start at the beginning or the end, maybe halfway between the two? Well since I can't decide, I will just pick some of my favorite photos taken over the last few months and weeks.
There was the moment when I was 35 weeks pregnant and Isabelle realised that she could squeeze a balloon under her top just so she could be like Mummy. Indeed, she was very proud of her bump just as I was with mine.
At 36 weeks I was preparing and stitching as fast as I could for the launch of my second fabric line 'Folk Tale' at Quilt Market in Houston. I was binding a new quilt (will show you soon!) and I looked down to see the sweet bump nestled among the fabric, more proof that you are never too young to be wrapped in something handmade & beautiful.
I took a photo to remember this moment just incase I forget over time.
At 38 weeks we woke up to celebrate Isabelle's 4th birthday, she was excited about being four knowing that in a few weeks she would get to meet our new little one and become the big sister she had talked about (and dreamed of) for the last 9+ months.
The two of us had morning tea on the waterfront with Nanny, we didn't know at the time I was in labour - I brushed it off as braxton hicks and celebrated all that it is to be four, because anything is possible at that age.
Our next stop was the vintage carousel - maybe this story might be better if I had told you I rode a horse but alas, that didn't happen. I decided to just sit down and relax for a while, maybe the tightening in my belly would go away and come again another day for surely both your children can't arrive on the same date, four years apart?
I was in labour denial.
Our next stop was McDonalds......
It was a special treat for the birthday girl the perfect Happy Meal, my Mum & Dad were there to celebrate with us, we laughed and joked about many things including possibly being in labour while at the Golden Arches - of course I kept saying I wasn't, afterall it was only braxton hicks at 38 weeks, it wasn't happening today.
I don't remember eating lunch, my mind was elsewhere.
I was in labour denial.
At 3mins 30sec apart....lasting 40seconds, they (Mum & Dad) talked me into calling the hospital - I was not sure what the fuss was about at the time, I was going to drop Isabelle at Kinder and go and lay down for a while at home. Perfectly normal thing to do.
I was in labour denial.
At 1pm we arrived at the hospital for assessment, I asked the midwife if there was any chance of going home.....I guess you know the answer she gave me, I cried for the 1st time that day.
I was no longer in labour denial.
At 4.30pm on 19th October 2012 our beautiful baby was born, in one moment our lives changed forever and our hearts grew bigger.
A BOY.....a perfect tiny boy
I cried happy tears.
He arrived into the world on Isabelle's 4th birthday & she squealed in delight when they met for the first time....'Oh Mummy! this is the BEST birthday present EVER' there were tears in my eyes.
Indeed he is the greatest gift.
Introducing our son
Darcy William
7lb 10oz / 54cm
Born 4.30pm 19th October 2012
I wonder how I can capture and freeze this moment so I never forget, the smell of a newborn, the sleepy cuddles, the soft skin, gazing eyes and tiny toes - even the newborn hunger cry.
(Thanks to Sara for capturing this moment)
I do believe my heart just grew a little bigger....again
We are totally blessed
